Really cool valves which shoot out shots of nitrous into the air. I’ll be honest here and say that this is my first attempt at a purge valve, so please bear with me, as I’m learning too! lol..

Purge Valve
Difficulty – ****

First, hunt for a suitable location for the valve. I’m tempted to go for the scuttle panel on my Digimods MX5! So there.

Create new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) and then use the line tool (set on a white colour) and begin drawing lines like on the left. This kinda looks like a spraying action yea? Hmm maybe not..

Okay.. right.. Smudge tool (R) time! Select quite a large brush set it on 50% and begin smudging out those lines. Complete..

For this tutorial, I’m using a Ford Focus as the test bed, I’m gonna pop the vent on it just above the side indicator..

First you need to find a suitable donor image. There are a few after market ones about, so try looking for those on modified car pics. Just for you, I have got a little collection of them for you to use! Just right click them, and save to an area of your hard drive.

Righty.. Copy and paste the required vent onto the car! And transform it, so it looks correct on the car. The Transform option is accessed using Ctrl+T. It’s a basic grab handle system (hold the shift key to skew it).

It SHOULD look like summit on the left! Just make sure it looks part of the car (same angle and perspective etc!)

Lower the opacity of the layer to about 50% (using the layers box (bottom right). Then, use the eraser tool (E), and begin blending it into the bodywork. Select a suitable brush size for the application.

So, desaturate it

Then head for Image>Adjust>Variations. In this case, I wanted a hell of alot of blue, so I added loads of blue.

Next you go to image>adjust>hue/saturation… and FINE TUNE the colour so it matches perfectly. In this case I needed to adjust the colour slightly and the intensity of the colour. This is done by sliding the adjustment bars.Ok, once you’ve done this, adjust the opacity slightly to around 90% so it blends in nicer!

Tutorial: Wheels Upgrade to some nice sporty rims with this basic tutorial. Wheel Change

This Mini Cooper S looks pretty nice on the standard rims anyway, but lets make it slightly better!

Try and find a donor vehicle at the same angle as the car! Otherwise it will not look right..
I’ve found some wheels off a Saab Concept car.

Grab the Eclipse lasso tool and draw loosely around the wheel and tyre.
Then go to Select>Modify>Transform and adjust it using the grab handles (Shift to skew it).
Copy (ctrl+c) and then paste (Ctrl+V) it onto the image you are adding it to..

Hit Ctrl+T and then transform the wheel so it is at the same angle and is the same size as the original.
If need be use the Eraser tool (E) to blend it nicely into the rest of the tyre.

You should then repeat it for the front wheel. If the front overlaps like so…

Use the line tool and delete the overlap (as shown on the diagram). If the front overlaps like so…

Use the lasso tool and delete the overlap (as shown on the diagram). Completed =D

Tutorial: Van Conversion If you have a 3 door hatchback, its pretty easy to get it to look like a van. Here are the step by step details.. Van Conversion

This is a Honda Civic, about the right shape for some van action. To do a van conversion, we basically have to carry on the paint from the sides of the car onto the windows to create a panel that voids where the glass used to be.

Ok, First, use the lasso tool and draw around the edge of the window, ensuring you leave a bit of a gap, as this will be the dark edges of the panel van.

Now, select a base colour for the panel. In this case, I’m gonna use the colour of the car. Using the pipette tool (I), select the colour next to the bottom left of the window.
Create a new layer, and fill in this lasso selection with that colour.

Looks ok, but a bit flat… So let add some highlights, and reflections.
Now, in this case, if you have a look on the original and you will see a difference in colours about half way up,
this is lighting change, so lets do it on the panel!!
Select the area, pipette (I) the nearby lighter colour, and fill this with the airbrush

OK, looking better now, maybe a good idea to add some more detailing, exactly the same way as before. On the top left of this civic window, there was a reflection from a tree, so I shall add this too.
Also, using the blur tool, just slightly blur out some of the rough edges of the panel.

It should look a bit like this.Next, you need to fill in the other window on the other side. Use a very dark blue colour for this, or use the pippette (I) and select a colour from the interior.

Use the lasso tool and select the area. ……like this….. …and fill it in with the airbrush tool! Done.

Tutorial: Neons

Add that underglow to your chops.

Neon
Difficulty – ***

Standard car… ready for neons.

Make a new layer by going to Layer>New>Layer. And then use the Lasso tool and go around the car like the pic on the left.

Fill this lasso’d area with a nice neon colour.. (We’ll try bogey green, btu you can use any!).

Then change the layer style to OVERLAY by using the little layer dialogue box in the bottom right of the screen.

Righty… the neons layer is now semitransparent. and we can now grab the ERASER (E) tool and begin to eraser the bits not required. Contrary to popular believe, neons don’t light up fresh air, so ensure you rub out all the bits not required. Try to make sure you only keep the bits where it would light on the floor. ;)

Here we go.. finished product :D

You can duplicate the neon layer if you want to make the effect more intense. It works nicer on pics that aren’t particularly bright, as it is hard to see neon’s in the daylight

Tutorial: Two Tone Paint

In a modifying world where wackiness is the key to success, a standard single tone paintjob will not suffice! So here are the instructions to create two tone paint. Two Tone Paint

With this car, we shall attempt to colour the bottom half blue. Draw around the area you want colouring with the lasso tool (L) and then copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) it.

Now hit Ctrl+Shift+U to desaturate it. Then go to Image>adjust>variations. This allows to you to add colour..
All you have to do is click on the appropriate colour as many time as you like to increase the intensity. Or, you can mix colours like red and yellow to create gold. But here, I’ve gone for blue.

You cant see it all too well on the above picture, but we have also coloured in the vents on the bumper in blue as well.
Which we don’t want! So just use the lasso tool, select and delete those areas using the delete key. We are now done.
You should complete the picture by hitting Ctrl+Shift+E to flatten the new layer you made.
